Church School

Children are always welcome in our worship services!  Although children are welcome to stay in worship for the entire worship service, we do have programs available.  Please click here to learn more about our Church School Program.

Our Children’s Christian Education Mission:

"To nurture children in becoming followers of Jesus: people who know and love God, interpret God’s word, belong to God’s gathered community, and share God’s good news."

Goals of Children’s Ministry:
  • Develop, foster and maintain a safe, comprehensive and vital program of Christian Education for the church

  • To nurture children and youth in their faith formation and sharing that faith through service

  • To strengthen the connection between home and congregation, including church-wide fellowship

  • To explore what it means to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in Christian community

  • To teach biblical truths in such a way that they can be applied to daily life

Youth Fellowship

The goal for our church’s youth groups, known as Pilgrim Fellowship, is to provide a safe and fun place for Middle School and High School students to enjoy wholesome activities that engender love of God and care for others.  We strive to provide an environment where our youth feel accepted, included and valued. We design activities and plan events that are fun, build trust, develop confidence, provide opportunities for fellowship and encourage spiritual growth.  We also seek to put our faith into action to assist our local and global neighbors. Examples of youth fellowship activities include: the Youth Sunday worship service, laser tag, Food Bank Scavenger Hunt, Interfaith Youth Hangout, Boston’s CityReach program for people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, ice skating and assembling care packages for our college students.

Our young people focus on their relationship to God, self and others through a variety of activities. Meeting times vary throughout the program year, depending on the activity. However, most events take place on Sunday afternoon. We strive to provide activities that balance fun, fellowship, faith and service. Updates are provided via weekly email and in other church communications.

Confirmation

In the 8th grade students join the Confirmation Class, where they are invited to explore their relationship with God and their faith more deeply. Confirmation classes are held on Tuesdays at a time agreeable to the participants, either directly after school at Tolland Middle School and/or in the evening at the church. Confirmation offers our youth an opportunity to explore many topics related to faith formation including Jesus, The Bible, Worship & the Church Year, Faith & Doubt, Peace & Justice, Baptism & Communion, World Religions, Prayer and more. Open discussions leave room for questions and doubts, search and discovery and the joy of becoming full members of a faith community.

Safety

Our church has zero tolerance for abuse. Therefore, we have “Safe Conduct” Policies & Procedures in place, which are followed to ensure the safety of all our children and volunteers.  All of our volunteers and employees who work with children under 18 years of age are screened and have a clear criminal background check prior to volunteering with children or youth.  Click here to view the UCC Tolland Safe Conduct Policy.
