The Tolland Green
Learning Center is a program of the United Congregational Church of
Tolland. Our Program exists to serve the educational and childcare
needs of children and their families in the Tolland area.
We offer programs for
children three through twelve years old throughout the year.
Our enrollment averages
eighty children during the school year and fifty-five during the
summer.
The Center is located in
the Christian Education Building of the church in rooms shared with
the Church School Program.
We are non-sectarian and
do not teach religious doctrine.
TGLC is a state licensed,
non-profit program and ministry of UCC of Tolland, established in 1982.
Center
Programs
Preschool
This
Program includes children that attend the Center for a full day as well
as those who come for morning Preschool, which runs 9:00-12:00. Our curriculum offers developmentally appropriate hands on activities
that provide opportunities for children to grow socially,
intellectually, emotionally, and physically.
Before/After
Kindergarten
The
children in this age group attend Birch Grove School for a half-day,
either morning or afternoon (depending on the address of the parents),
and attend the center either before or after school or both. The
children are transported to and from school by bus. Activities are
provided to reinforce their Kindergarten experience as well as a time to
interact with their friends.
School
age,
1st—5th Grade
The
children in this age group attend Birch Grove and come to TGLC either
before or after school or both. They are taken to school by bus
that picks them up on the Green. Children are given an opportunity
to engage in various activities and interact with other children in a
learning environment.
Mission
Statement
We
feel that our mission at Tolland Green Learning Center is to provide:
The best possible
emotional, physical, and learning environment for each individual
child.
A caring professional
staff that has a love, enjoyment of, and respect for children.
Curriculum that is
developmentally appropriate with an emphasis on social, emotional,
cognitive, and physical development.
We hope that all of the
above will help each child to develop a healthy self-image, have
positive social interactions with other children, and a curiosity for
learning.
Summer
Program
TGLC offers a "Summer
Program" that includes full day childcare for three through eight
year olds (children who have just completed third grade).
The
curriculum includes numerous activities in the individual classrooms
with a more relaxed summer schedule.
Field
Trips: We visit such places as Wickham Park, Look Park, Creamery
Brook Bison, bowling, Science Museum of West Hartford, Holyoke
Children's Museum, and walking tours on the Green.
Guests:
We have had visits from Wild Encounters, Lutz Museum, a
ventriloquist, clown, and a story teller.
Weekly
"Friday Gathering": On Fridays all of our classes
perform for each other, (things that they have worked on throughout the
week).
Outdoor
Activities: We take advantage of the outside as much as
possible with such things as cooling off under the sprinkler,
picnicking, playing in our meadow, on our playground or the playground
at Parker School.
