The United Congregational Church
of Tolland has a very social and active congregation. We have many missions activities taking
place, as well as social events. We hope you enjoy
browsing through pictures of our mission, and social
events.
Picture Tour
If
you are a visitor to our
church for the first time, perhaps you'd like to
take a picture tour
of our buildings and grounds so you'll know in
advance where to park and how to find our
sanctuary.
If you or your children
attend regularly, or even if you are a long-time
member, you may find some surprises in our
photos. Have you seen the room where our
PFers meet? We'll bet that most of you haven't
seen the belfry and our church bell. Take a
look!
Heritage Sunday September 26, 2010
The United Congregational
Church of Tolland has a history and heritage of which we can be duly
proud. One source of that pride is having ordained the Rev. Dr. William
Benton (on the same day he was married here to Loanza Goulding Benton) and
commissioned him to serve as a missionary in Syria in 1847.
Thanks to the creative talent
and research of church member and Tolland historian, Barbara Cook, an
enactment of a "homecoming" for Loanza to our church in 1890 was
presented in the place of the sermon on Sunday, September 26. Her story
of their many years as missionaries in Syria is as fascinating today as it
would have been 120 years ago. Those portraying the characters appeared
in period dress, but we trust you recognized them, nonetheless. Enjoy our
slide show.
All Church Suppers
A
couple of times during the church year, we have an All Church Supper. This is a buffet meal for all committee members and their families to show
appreciation for their dedicated time spent on various committee work. After
the meal, committee members report to their various locations to conduct
church business.
Senior's
Brunch
Once every
year or two, we offer a special Sunday Brunch for our Seniors. This
event is sponsored by the Caring
Ministries and Board of Deacons. Members of Caring Ministries prepared a great
Cheddar, Ham, and Spinach Strata and the Deacons helped with serving, eating,
and clean up afterward. See the recipe
Page
for this recipe and many other church favorites.
Church
Gardeners
We have a group of
volunteer gardeners who tend our church grounds spending time weeding,
pruning, mulching, and planting. They work informally on an
as-needed basis. Would you like to help out? Contact Bev Isch
