The
Prayer Shawl Ministry consists of knitters and crocheters who produce
beautiful shawls that are given to those in need, such as someone who is
ill, a shut-in, or someone who has experienced a loss. We also
provide them in celebration of events, such as weddings, baptisms and
“thinking of you” gifts. One year we produced and gave away as
many as 132 shawls. The shawls are knit in groups of three, a
significant number symbolizing faith, hope, love and Father, Son and the
Holy Spirit. These shawls have been given in 32 of the United States
as well as Haiti and Poland. In addition, several were given to Rev. Wright to use in his
volunteer work in the Hartford Hospital Chaplaincy program.
In addition to creating
the prayer shawls, this ministry holds an annual knit and craft sale in
November, featuring a large number of hats, scarves, mittens, blankets,
and antique linens, etc.
This group usually meets
the third Saturday of every month to knit and bless the completed
shawls. We welcome new members, even those who don’t yet know
how to knit. Our “instructors” have lots of patience, so
please come join this very special group.
The prayer shawls are
lovingly donated by this group of volunteers and are offered free of
charge. if you would like someone to have a prayer shawl, please
contact Kimberly Gottier, Coordinator of Caring Ministries (860-875-4160) to
make arrangements for picking one up or having one delivered.
We are open to non-church
members. We have even had a young girl and her brother in our
group. For more information please contact Linda Suess at suesslr@aol.com.
