This ministry grew out of a
need to respond to requests for receptions following funerals, memorial
services, and other occasions for church members as identified by the pastors
of the church. Volunteers from the congregation donate their time,
their talents, and the food and beverages for these receptions. Our
mission is to fulfill the biblical model for hospitality:
"Share with God's
people who are in need. Practice hospitality . . . Rejoice with those
who rejoice; mourn those who mourn."
Services
Provided:
The
Bereavement Reception Committee will provide finger foods appropriate for
the season and the time of day. For example, morning—coffee cake,
breads, bagels (including cream cheese and butter), coffee, tea and juice.
Afternoon—tea sandwiches, cheese and cracker tray, breads, desserts,
coffee, tea and punch.
Room
and Table Set-up: Serving tables for self-service will be
set up with linen tablecloths by the volunteers. Plates, napkins
and cups will be provided. The food will be arranged on the tables for
people to serve themselves. Volunteers will serve coffee, tea and
punch. Chairs and tables will be set up and clean up will be done by
church volunteers.
Suggested
donation: There are no required fees for this ministry of
hospitality. If you wish and you are able, a donation to the Caring
Ministries to defray any expenses of this ministry is appreciated.
Checks are payable to the United Congregational Church
of Tolland with a memo to Caring Ministries and may be sent to the
church address.
Please
note: Minister's, musician's, and florist's services are
not included in the services provided by this committee. The above
services are arranged directly with the pastors, musicians, florists or the
director of the funeral home you may be working with.
